Somalia: Center for Education and Development Assists Flood Victims

Center for Education and Development, CED, which started assisting Somalia's

Uganda: Museveni to Build Schools in Tanzania

Statehouse has entered a contract with a local firm to build two secondary
schools in Tanzania. Multiplex Ltd, a Kampala based firm has been contracted
to build the schools at Nyaligamba, Muhutwe, Kamachumi and at Nyamiyaga
Murongo in Muleba district.

Uganda: Is Govt Serious About Mass Higher Schooling?

This week the Ministry of Education and Sports quietly stopped receiving
applications for prospective secondary school teachers. It had temporarily
lifted the government moratorium on hiring new teachers as it attempts to

Uganda: JCRC Gives Life to Children Living With HIV

IF it were not for the quick action of the doctors from the Joint Clinical
Research Centre (JCRC), young Kiwanuka would not be alive today. At the time
of admission at JCRC, Kiwanuka was suffering from several illnesses and as a
result, his chest was severely affected. He had to be confined on an oxygen
cylinder for six months.

Kenya: Burial Plans for 'Father of Aids Orphans' Announced

The late Fr. Angelo D'Agostino, a Jesuit priest and medical doctor who set

Kenya: Centre for Drug Addicts Opened

A drug addiction treatment centre has been opened in Coast Provincial
General Hospital to contain drug abuse and spread of HIV/Aids. The project

Plan to free inmates with HIV or Aids 

Prisoners with Aids will soon be released if a draft Bill is passed into
law. Vice-President Moody Awori said yesterday that HIV-positive inmates or
those with full-blown Aids would "have quality life with their families
instead of being left to die in prison." But he said those to enjoy the
amnesty must prove that they are not a security threat.

AMREF course tailored to fix Africa's health problems 

Last week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) published a report on the
status of health in Africa, reviewing the scale of diseases such as
HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria in the continent. The report also highlights the
importance of equipping health professionals with skills that are suited to
working with current health care systems across Africa.

AIDS drug demand up   

The number of people living with HIV/AIDS in need of anti-retroviral therapy
(ART) has shot up. An estimated one million Ugandans are living with the
virus that causes AIDS, according to the 2004/05 HIV/AIDS sero-behavioural
report.

Official advises Ruhango on Aids


An official from the National women’s Council (CNF) has advised Ruhango
parents to embark on sex education as a means of fighting HIV/Aids in their
community. Clemence Nzamukosha, the CNF Secretary in Ruhango made the
remarks during a meeting with parents and children held at Ruhango sector
last week.
