State releases education cash
The Government has released Sh4 billion to finance the free primary
education programme. All the money, disbursed directly to school accounts,
has come from the Treasury, announced Education minister Noah Wekesa.

City officials, secondary school head teachers meet
Kigali City Council (KCC) authorities yesterday held a meeting with all
secondary school head teachers of schools operating in Kigali City.
According to Jeanne D'Arc Gakuba, the city's Vice Mayor in charge of Social
Affairs, participants brainstormed on what has been achieved and the agenda
for the coming year.

Ethiopia: Hope Enterprise Constructing Primary School
Hope Enterprise said that it is constructing a primary school at a cost of
1.6 million birr for orphans and needy children in Assosa town,

Head teachers trained on compassion
NYAGATARE: Head teachers from different districts in Eastern Province are
undergoing a three-day training on caring habits in a bid to promote unity
and reconciliation in schools.The workshop held at Hotel Blue Sky in
Nyagatare District, started on October 31, and is organised by Elaine Park,
the founder of Caring Habits Partners in United States of America.

Rwanda: Landlocked Country May Soon Become Top ICT Hub in Africa
All public schools in Rwanda are expected to join the information
super-highway by the end of next year. Already, half of the primary and
secondary schools have embraced the new technology, which has been given
priority by the Government under its 2020 vision programme.

The Ministry of Education Central Region branch is introducing peer group

British Council launches a management learning program
The British Council last Tuesday announced the launch of a new learning
program for management professionals. Michael Moore, director of the British
Council, told a press conference that the program titled "Management
Express" was designed for young and mid-career management professionals who
were unable to attend formal education in universities.

Burundi: Grant to Benefit Education, Health and Agriculture
Belgian and Burundian officials have identified education, health,
agriculture, and law and order as the main beneficiaries of a 60 million
euro (US $12.5 million) grant from Belgium for development projects in
2007-2009, officials said on Friday.

Knut officials to declare their HIV status
Officials of a teachers union would declare their HIV status in public
during the World Aids Day to be marked on December 1.Thirty national
executive council members of the Kenya National Teachers Union (Knut) made
the resolve at the end of a three-day workshop on Aids at Plaza Beach Hotel
in Mombasa.

Anti-bleeding tablets in offing
KAMPALA: A team of researchers from the University College London Hospital

Kenya: State in Talks for Sh4 Billion to Fight Aids
The Government is negotiating a second round of Sh4 billion from the World

Senator advises Bugarama residents on HIV/Aids
CYANGUGU: Senator Foustin Munyakabera, has advised residents of Bugarama
Sector in Rusizi district, Western Province to desist from immoral acts.
Munyakabera said that such acts like prostitution, polygamy and having
unprotected sex are major causes of HIV/Aids.

Rwanda: Demystifying HIV - Lighting the Future
For most Africans living with HIV, ARVs are still not available - fewer than
one in five of the millions of Africans in need of the treatment are
receiving it. Many millions are not even receiving treatment for
opportunistic infections, which affect individuals whose immune systems have
been weakened by HIV infection.

Uganda: Country Begins Mother-to-Child Aids Vaccine Trials
Ugandan and American Aids researchers have begun the first ever clinical
trial of a vaccine to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV through
breast-feeding which, if successful, could prevent at least 25,000
infections in new-borns in East Africa alone.

'Abstinence a badge of pride'
FIRST Lady Janet Museveni has urged the youth to consider abstinence as a
badge of pride. "You need to shun misguided people who say that if young
people abstain from sex, it means they are backward, local or foolish, or
that if you don't have sex before marriage, you will get complications in
future.
