North to get more houses for teachers
EDUCATION standards are likely to improve in parts of northern Uganda when
teachers get houses on school premises.
The World Vision International plans to construct more teachers' houses in
several districts in the region, Dr Dean Hirsch, has said.

Mbarara's Kigyagi wants education reformed
IF proper laws to enforce Universal Primary Education were in place, Mbarara
Municipality MP John Kigyagi would rest his case. For his idea of a better
country is seeing all Ugandans of school-going age have a good life
foundation set through school, Kigyagi dreams of getting the government to

Kenya to get its seventh public varsity
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is Kenya's seventh
public institution of higher education. Parliament unanimously upgraded the
Western University College of Science Technology (WUST) to a full-fledged
university and voted to name it in honour Opposition politician Masinde
Muliro.

FAWE-Rwanda to construct new girls' school
The Forum for African Women Educationists in Rwanda (FAWE-Rwanda) is set to
construct a new girls' school in Rukara district- Eastern Province, next
year. The project is sponsored by the World Bank through the Human Resource
Project under the ministry of education, the acting coordinator Jane Mutoni
has confirmed.

HUNDREDS of secondary school teachers yesterday flooded the education
ministry headquarters seeking recruitment into the Education service.
The government recently announced 1,604 vacancies for the posts of education
officer and assistant education officers.

Not even blindness can stop him from leading
He firmly holds his walking stick and moves freely from one corner of the
school compound to another as he leads Standard Chartered Bank officials on
a guided tour of the school. The bank staff, led by the Chief Executive
Officer, Mr David D. Cutting were at the school to paint the school's
dormitories and plant flowers under the bank's "Seeing is believing"
Programme.

Additional classrooms inaugurated
Addis Ababa - Some 24 new additional classrooms constructed on the premises
of two schools in Bole Sub-city of the Addis Ababa City Administration at a

A'level exams start
A'Level examinations kicked off yesterday. Some 72,189 candidates are
sitting the examinations which end on December 1. Candidates started with

Eritrea: Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare Extends Assistance to Needy
Students
The branch office of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare in the Southern
Red Sea region has extended school materials in assistance to 300 needy
students. The assistance worth 67,000 Nakfa includes money for school fees
and buying uniforms.

East Africa: Regional Approach Key to Fight HIV/Aids in Horn of Africa,

Africa: Students Turn to Internet for HIV/Aids Information
The Internet may be a promising strategy to deliver low-cost HIV/AIDS risk
reduction interventions in resource-limited settings with expanding Internet
access. This is according to a November 7 report appearing in Plosmedicine,

No amount of strength will prepare you for the mixed emotions that you feel
when you walk into Jajas' Home and meet the children who are brought there
everyday. Jajjas' Home, located in Lweza on Naziba Hill along Entebbe Road,
