THE US government has been commended for supporting the Ugandan education
system. According to the state minister for primary education, Peter

Varsity academic years to be cut
Future university students may have to study for shorter periods than their
predecessors if the plan to slash the number of academic years succeeds.
Education Minister Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya told The New Times on Tuesday
that the government plans to cut the number of academic years of all Higher
Institutions of Learning from four down to three.

National Council of Higher Education to hold university exhibition
The National Council for Higher Education is organising a university
exhibition, from May 25 to 27 at Lugogo Exhibition Hall, from 9:00am to
6:00pm daily. The exhibition, the first of its kind in Uganda , is expected

Uganda : 10 years of HIV vaccine tests
May 18, 2007 is the international HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. While worldwide
HIV vaccine research started about two decades ago, in Uganda it is exactly
10 years and already a few steps towards finding a solution to the almost
25year-old scourge have been taken.

HIV/AIDs rate drops
MUKONO-The HIV/AIDS prevalence in the district now stands at 6.1% from 6.4%
in 2006, the director of health services, has revealed. Dr. Elly Tumushabe,
however, warned that poor funding of the health directorate could cause a
rise in the numbers. He said budgetary allocation to the directorate had
dropped from over sh300m five years ago to about sh200m currently.
