Rwanda

Teachers: Set the examinations bar high
Anyone who spends time acquiring skills, knowledge and attitudes in school
must be allowed time to prove their worth. Now that the academic year is
slowly coming to an end, teachers countrywide are busy preparing final exams
for their students.

 Uganda 

School attendance rises as WFP resumes food supply in Karamoja
THE World Food Programme (WFP) is providing a lifeline to Uganda's least
developed region, Karamoja, through relief services. Through its support,
valued at over $17.3m (sh30b) this year, the UN body is expected to reach
75% of the Karamoja population in more than 230 schools, 31 health centres
and 263 communities.

USE schools to get more classrooms
SECONDARY schools that enrolled over 400 students for Senior One under the
Universal Secondary School (USE) programme will get more classroom blocks.
Gabriel Opio, the Minister of State for Higher Education, said the project
would be implemented before February next year.

Uganda

Early intervention crucial in HIV fight
Today is Paediatric HIV Advocacy Day. Statistics in Uganda show that 25,000
babies are born with HIV every year and about 110,000 are living with it.

Lira opens youth centre
LIRA-The HIV/AIDS programme officer in the health ministry has launched a
sh200m project to help the youth avoid sexually transmitted infections and
early pregnancy.
