Rwanda using ICT to build knowledge-based economy

Parents urged to fight illiteracy
RUHAMA MP Janet Museveni has appealed to parents to support institutions and
the Government to eliminate illiteracy. Mrs. Museveni warned that if the
parents did not educate their children, they would reap limited success.

Budo students interact with professionals on careers day
KING'S College Budo held a career exhibition day recently, at which students
interacted with professionals from different fields. The professionals, who
included doctors, artists, engineers, bankers, accountants, teachers,
journalists, insurers and musicians, were former students of the school.

Kisubi Brothers Centre holds first graduation
THE Brothers Centre of Uganda Martyrs University recently held its first
graduation ceremony at its campus at Kisubi, in Wakiso district. Thirty
pioneer students who successfully completed their studies were awarded the
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.

Kyambogo to start open e-learning programme
A NEW education system, electronic learning, is here. The Open Distance and
e-Learning (ODeL) will mainly assist students, who wish to study at home.
All a student needs is a computer and Internet connection to access the
programme.

Students get scholarships
FORT PORTAL - The Uganda Pentecostal University has awarded scholarships to
three students to study at its campus. The students received the
scholarships at a function held at the university campus at Kahungabunyonyi
in West Division.

25 seed secondary schools to be built
THE Government has started construction of another 25 seed secondary schools
out of the 63 pledged to be put up countrywide. The construction, funded by
the African Development Bank and the Government, will cost $29.2m (about
sh50b).

Health care donates items to guardians to HIV orphans
ST Francis Health Care Centre in Njeru has donated mattresses and blankets
worth Shs. 100 million to 120 women left with the responsibility of raising
the grandchildren orphaned by the HIV scourge.

Parliament staff test for HIV
OVER 200 Parliament staff were tested for HIV/AIDS at the Parliament
recently. The Presidential Guard Brigade, some MPs, the parliamentary
Police, Roko Construction workers, journalists and other non-parliamentary
staff also took advantage of the free HIV/AIDS tests.
