Preschool enrolment decline
As enrolment continues to rise in primary and secondary schools, the reverse
is happening in early childhood education centres.

Rwanda 

Broad-based education essential to Rwanda’s devt 
Rwanda’s Vision 2020 is a socio-economic roadmap that is guiding the
country’s drive towards a middle income economy by the year 2020. Rwanda,
according to this plan, will be a knowledge-based economy with a
professional working class.

MPs okay city school re-opening 
KIGALI - Members of Parliament have given a go-ahead for the re-opening of
Ensengnement des Sciences Appliqués (ESA) in Gikondo, Kicukiro District
after making the hygienic standards required by the Ministry of Education.

Uganda

Science teaching vital – Museveni
PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has urged secondary school administrators to take
seriously the teaching of science subjects.

Kabarole to build classes
The district, under the School Facilities Grant, is to construct 20
classrooms, 15 latrines and purchase 360 desks for schools. The tendering
process is done and construction work started early this month. This was
revealed in the presentation by the education department to a budget
conference last week, at Kagote SDA Hall by district education officer
Victoria Businge. She said, however, that the district lacked funding for
Special Needs Education.

Gulu charity to rebuild primary schools at deserted locations
COMBONI Samaritan, a charity organisation under the Gulu Catholic
Archdiocese, has started a project to construct six schools at the sites
that were abandoned due to the LRA insurgency in Gulu and Amuru districts.

Uganda

MP tips on HIV/AIDS
The Bugabula North MP, Gerald Menyha, has appealed to private medical
practitioners to establish HIV/AIDS testing and counselling services at
their units. He said it would help communities’ access information and get
services about their status. The MP on Tuesday said many patients in the
district visit private clinics, which lack HIV/AIDS services.
